an exhibition by women….celebrating diversity, unity, and cross-cultural acceptance
November 5th…..We’ve invited an extraordinary group of artists to participate in a new exhibition in our gallery…showcasing the talents of established, mid-career, and emerging artists.
It has been several years since we’ve dedicated our entire space to showcase female artists, so we’re setting aside November to celebrate Women at ChimMaya!

2005, ChimMaya opened ‘solely’ as a women’s accessory boutique. From the beginning, women were the lifeblood of our space. Within months of opening, many of those first customers (women) suggested and encouraged us to begin exhibiting artwork.
In the early days….it was challenging to find artists to entrust their artwork to an unknown space in East Los Angeles. |
Yolanda Gonzalez, Emilia Garcia, Ixchel Marina, CiCi Segura Gonzalez, Dolores Gonzalez Haro, Pola Lopez and Margaret Garcia….were among the first artists to believe in us. As established artists exhibiting in our space….they opened doors for us, that to this day is immeasurable in its depth of generosity.
We’re excited about this new exhibition! We’ve invited many familiar names, and we’re also introducing several new artists to our gallery. ‘Weaving Cultures’….is a blending of styles, themes, mediums, and cultural diversity, that embodies the artwork and makeup of this talented ensemble group of artists.
