Three Exhibitions….Opening Reception

In previous years, our December show has always carried a religious theme. Although those shows are visually beautiful and well attended,we decided after much consideration….to change our theme to fashion.

Since our gallery is an outgrowth of our retail boutique, ‘The Art of Fashion’….seemed appropriate and long overdue as a subject for a show.

The show will include….paintings, drawings, photography, illustration and assemblage.

Although not limited to, this show’s intent….is to show that art and artwork can be inspired by, and be an inspiration for, fashion throughout the ages. Much of today’s fashions….from urban-street to runway-couture, are quite often reflected in many artists work.

‘New Works .. Steve Leal’….Steve came to our gallery earlier this year, and quickly has become a favorite of our collectors and his peers at ChimMaya.

Much of his work blends Art Deco / Art Nouveau / High Fashion and a fresh approach to incorporating iconic Latino imagery into his artwork.

Steve Leal was born in Inglewood, CA 1962. Self taught, he has been creating artwork for as long as he can remember. At 20yrs he had his first solo exhibition at Self Help Graphics, and soon was picked up by a major publishing company at 21yrs. Steve quickly gained popularity and published more than a dozen fine art ‘Limited Editions’.

Throughout the 80’s-90’s…..Steve continued to find success as an artist. During the same period, Steve was asked to illustrate more than ninety paintings for presenters and artists for the American Music Awards for two consecutive years. With the acclaim that he received from the AMA Awards, Steve was soon commissioned to do the Cecil B. DeMille Award for the Golden Globes. Lauren Bacall was the first year’s recipient and Robert Redford the second year.

In the mid 90’s, Steve took a break and ventured into other commercial venues. As a long time resident of the San Luis Obispo area, Steve has decided to return to Los Angeles, where his career and inspiration began for this exhibition of his artwork.

Steve’s artwork is a perfect compliment to our theme of fashion in December. We are pleased that Steve accepted our invitation to create an exhibition of ‘New’ work for ChimMaya. Steve will be part of our fashion exhibition in the Main Gallery and his featured exhibition in our West Gallery.

’12×12′….In our continuing effort to bring new concepts for exhibitions to our gallery, ChimMaya commissioned 12×12 canvas to be made for this special show. Each artist was invited to create ‘NEW’ artwork of their choosing.

This open themed exhibition, will enable our gallery to bring affordable artwork to our collectors….perfect for Holiday gift giving.
