…Symbols are metaphors encrusted in the psyche of allhumans. Since the infancy ofhumankind, Artists have communicated using symbolic language to remind us about the connection that we all have with each other and Nature… Victor Amor
ChimMaya is pleased to present the art work of Victor Amor and Ixchel Amor ‘ChimMaya Resident’ artists…..and two artists that were in the first group exhibition in our gallery. Their unique style, their blending of Mexican and European influences, and their passion with stretching the limits of their talent…has made them long time favorites of our collectors, and an incredible ‘collaboration’ that brings a significant vision to the Los Angeles Latino art scene.
Ixchel Amor was born and raised in Mexico City until coming to the United States in 1985. Since her move to Los Angeles, Ixchel has been teaching Fine Arts in private institutions and art schools around Southern California. Together with her husband, Victor, she established Art Lyceum in Alhambra in 1999, where she is Creative Director. Ixchel has participated in numerous shows in and around Los Angeles and has continued to exhibit in her native country of Mexico.
Ixchel’s artwork reflects her interest in the inner tensions of the spirit with its quest for knowledge, beauty and truth. She infuses her art with symbols, archetypes, patterns and sacred geometry with the intention of provoking unsettling feelings within a viewer that might spark a desire for change in his or her life.
Victor Amor was born and raised in Mexico City until coming with Ixchel to the United States in 1985. During 1989-1991 he studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts, ‘La Esmeralda’. Since 1989 he has participated in exhibitions in his native Mexico and the United States….as well as being co-founder of the ‘Art Lyceum’ in Alhambra with his wife Ixchel.
Throughout the years of development as a sculptor, Victor has followed a traditional road in which drawing has been the backbone of his work….allowing him the exhaustive study of two-dimensional mediums. Through these mechanics, he has approached sculpture; where, an essential influence from the Mexican School and European Art has become his trademark.
Victor’s artwork is in residential collections and public spaces in several countries. Some of the projects he has developed include: jewelry (cameos, rings); theatrical masks; sculptures for stores (Disney Stores, Universal City Walk, The World of Coca-Cola); theme parks (Disneyland, Six Flags, Universal Studios); TV commercials (Mr. Peanut, Clorox); TV programs (Jeopardy); sculpture pieces for the The Tournament of Roses; as well as, architectural details for casinos (Paris Casino, Treasure Island, MGM Hotel Casino), and theme parks (Disney’s California Adventure).
